Chinese Red-Braised Pork Belly
Melt-in-your-mouth red-braised pork belly with star anise and soy. A glossy, deeply savory Chinese classic over rice.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs pork belly, cut into 2-inch cubes
- 3 broken star anise
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 2 tbsp Shaoxing wine
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Blanch pork belly cubes in boiling water 3 minutes. Drain.
- Brown pork in a dry pot until golden.
- Add all remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil.
- Cover and braise on the lowest heat for 1.5-2 hours until pork is tender and sauce is thick.
- Remove star anise and cinnamon. Serve over steamed rice with braised greens.
